The Brief & My Role

Green Treat was developed in response to two connected challenges: the rising cost of groceries and the amount of edible food wasted by retailers and households. The objective was to create a mobile experience that could make reduced-price products easier to discover while helping users shop more sustainably. As the lead UX/UI designer, I was responsible for developing the project from its initial concept through to the final interface and prototype.

My work included researching the problem, identifying user needs, planning the information architecture, mapping key journeys and creating the visual identity. I wanted the experience to feel useful and trustworthy without making sustainable shopping appear complicated, allowing environmental awareness, affordability and everyday convenience to work together within one accessible digital product.

Making sustainable shopping simpler

The research stage focused on understanding the barriers people experience when attempting to shop both affordably and sustainably. These included difficulty locating relevant offers, limited time to compare products and uncertainty about whether discounted food would suit individual dietary requirements. These findings established four priorities for the experience: convenience, personalisation, clarity and trust.

I mapped the application’s information architecture and created detailed user flows to explore how someone might register, select their preferences, discover nearby offers, view products and manage their account. Visualising these journeys helped identify unnecessary steps and clarify the relationship between different areas of the application. Particular attention was given to onboarding and product discovery, ensuring users could understand the platform’s purpose and begin finding relevant offers without facing an overly complicated setup process.

Interface Design & Prototype

The interface uses a bright green palette to communicate freshness, affordability and environmental awareness, supported by warmer colours that help distinguish products, categories and promotional content. Rounded components, clear typography and image-led cards create a familiar shopping experience while giving Green Treat its own recognisable personality. A friendly tree-shaped character was introduced during onboarding to guide users through the process and make the subject of food waste feel positive and approachable.

Personalised recommendations allow the concept to respond to dietary preferences, household needs and shopping priorities, helping users focus on suitable offers. The final prototype combines onboarding, product discovery, saved items and account management within one consistent experience, demonstrating how research, user-flow planning, visual identity and interface design can support an accessible sustainability-focused product.
